Ministry to Seniors

Mount Pleasant provides community, friendship and spiritual growth for many people in their senior years.

Monday Afternoon Fellowship

Our Monday Afternoon Fellowship meets at 2.30 pm each week (except July, August and Bank Holidays)
for a devotional meeting with a varied list of visiting speakers and is followed by a time to chat over tea and biscuits/cakes. All are welcome, although most members are over retirement age.

Luncheon Club

Luncheon Club was set up to provide a service for elderly folk, who live on their own, to come together for fellowship and a hot meal. Church members and non-church members (particularly those who live in close proximity to the church) are welcome. Luncheon Club meets every Thursday at 11.30 am, and members are welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee. This is a good time to catch up with all the news from friends. At 12.30 pm a team of helpers provides a hot meal, usually consisting of soup, main course and a sweet. A small charge is made for this. Entertainment is provided at 1.30 pm - illustrated talks, speakers or musical arrangements are enjoyed by all. As this is a popular club places may be limited.

Songs of Praise

Our Songs of Praise service is held on the third Sunday in the month at 4.00 pm. The service comprises of an hour-long presentation of hymns chosen by people who share some of their testimony. It is a popular service and the blend of more traditional hymns and often moving testimonies is appreciated by all, particularly the older members of the congregation. The service is followed by a meal for the senior attenders and cake for all the rest of the congregation.

A Holiday at Home

A summer holiday here at the Open Door Centre!

For one week each year senior citizens who have been unable to have a holiday for the previous two years are invited to join us each afternoon for a week for entertainment, trips, fun and great food. Places are limited, so enquire early.

Holiday at Home 2010 will run from 12th to 16th July 2010. If you, a friend, relative or neighbour are over 65 and have not had a holiday in the past two years, we should be very glad to hear from you. Please contact us for more details.

Have you ever considered organising something like our Holiday at Home at your own church or organisation? We invite you to find out more about the benefits of developing a similar ministry, and the work involved. Click here for more details.

If you would like to know more about any of our events and activities for seniors listed or would like us to arrange for someone to collect you, please contact The Open Door Centre office on 01604 516809 and we will do what we can to help you.
